Like many others, I bought at a ‘too good to be true’ price. They were fakes. Blunt and the blue strip come off. Reported to eBay and PayPal and got my money back. HOWEVER – I also sent a blade to Gillette who called me back within a couple of days and sent me a £10 voucher as a ‘courtesy’ ! THUS made a profit on the fakes.

CounterfeitItems: Gillette Mach 3 Power Razor Blades

Like most others, I was a longtime Gillette customer who was looking for discounted blades. I figured that since Gillette had released the Fusion Blade, it was believable that there might be discounted Mach 3 Power blades on eBay, as this “model” of blades is now several years old. I was completely unaware that the razor blade market was also plagued with counterfeits. So, when I won an auction offered by “queenorking” for 12 packages of Gillette Mach 3 Power blades for $50 back in May 2007, I was convinced I finally was able to stock up on my favorite blade at reasonable discount. The first time I used my new blades, which unfortunately didn’t happened until about 50 days after receiving them due to my existing supply of “real” blades, I could tell something was wrong. The shave was very poor and left my face sore. The blade’s comfort strip, which upon closer inspection revealed was nothing more than a plastic strip, was the second tip-off. The clues came together to form the reality that I had been scammed into buying counterfeit blades. A quick Google search of “counterfeit Gillette blades” turned up many hits, including this website. Too much time had passed for me to be able to report the problem to eBay, so instead I decided to use my bad experience to warn potential eBay members by searching out similar auctions and contacting the high bidders. So far I have been successful in stopping five eBay members from making the same mistake I did. I encourage others here to direct some of your anger at this scam to do the same. You have a great site here. One idea: You should put up a gallery of fake/real comparisons for other model blades besides the Mach 3 Turbo. I would be willing to send you a package of my counterfeit Mach 3 Power blades including what I believe are the tip-offs if that would help. Let me know. Oh, I forgot to mention in my original account that it now appears many of these counterfeit blade auctions are “BUY IT NOW” auctions, which most likely are used to prevent those of us who got scammed in contacting potential bidders.

I just found your website. Thank you for your work and that you do CARE. I really admire you for your work and that you did´nt give up. The seller that sold me the razer blades is not a registered ebay member any more, I wonder why! As many other, I left him positive feedback before I understood that the blades are fake. When I contacted him, he told me not to be worry and he will send me new Authentic blades. But he sent me again Fake (some better quality this time)blades. I purchased 3 packets (12 blades), but he sent me totally, 9 packets to get sure that I will be some pleased. This in combination with his very bad English made me give up. Any way, I decided to never purchase any more blades on ebay. Any I hope people like you will make ebay to find out how to refuse this kind of sellers in a sooner future. Go on, you rocks!

I suspected there was something wrong with the blades upon first use. To experiment, I alternately used an ‘old’ original gillette blade that I had purchased from a supermarket and switched to the now obviously ‘new’ counterfeit blade that I purchased from eBay user ID – ‘gilletterazorblades’. The difference was remarkable with the old original blade outperforming the counterfeit one. The counterfeit one was harsh and scratchy and felt like an old blunt blade. The lubricating strip contains no beneficial ingredients but is merely painted on. In additton to these traits,(lack of and/or incorrect) quality control, packaging and serial numbers of the counterfeit items are consistent with those noted on this site. Thank you fakeblades.com, your site is invaluable to myself and others alike. My next step is to contact gillette, followed by a request to ‘gilletterazorblades’ of the full refund of the purchase price – The matter of further compensation is now in the hands of my solicitor. I shall also be forwarding a link to this site to all contacts in my address book and requesting them to do likewise. – Stuart

No serial number on cartridge casing. font does not match target purchases from 1 year ago or current; teal strip is non-lubricant colored plastic; blades not nearly as effective as real; gillette not printed on cartridge as target ones have; uk packaging looks pretty legit. I have bought from ebay before and target and have received the identical product so clearly this is some sort of Counterfeit. font on cartridge is close but not equal to target/previous ebay purchases. Close but no cigar. Sent to Gillette Q&A team; when confronted seller said “Wow. Don’t go overboard. I’ll be happy to give you a refund if your not staisfied.” Seller kept asking me to close paypal dispute before product arrived (thus no further dispute possible). Would be glad to provide high resolution photos.

I won an ebay auction of 40 blades for just $51 total including shipping, which is pretty cheap considering they would have cost $150+ at the supermarket. When I recieved the blades they looked very similar to the ones I used to buy from the supermarket. However after just a few shaves, the blades went EXTREMELY BLUNT. After seraching the interent for answers I came across this website and decided that I should leave a comment. I guess you get what you pay for.

The 40 Mach 3 blades I recently purchased on eBay are counterfeit as well. I’ve only opened two packages and what I see so far is that the blades have goo and dust all over them, the silver brackets on the back of the blade are crooked on most, and the clear plastic blade holders don’t have serial numbers on the side as the genuine items do. I am presently serving in Iraq and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of these blades (forwarded to me by my family) because I was on my last genuine Mach 3 blade and now I’m screwed
I purchased these blades from “source-imports”.

I too purchased blades that seem to be fakes. I am dealing with paypal now and they want someone to verify that they are fake (who does this)? Anyway I only have two days left to fax them a letter and am sure I won’t make it. So they will probably go unpunished. It’s not the money issue I just don’t want them to sell anymore of them. I recieved an e-mail from an ebay member warning me before I got the blades and sure enough I think they’re fakes. Any Info would be helpful. Being a “pastor,” I didn’t think he would have the nerve to scam people. However, they ended up being fakes, really crappy ones. Unleveled blades, the blades wiggle a little because they’re not fully secure, and they have the plastic strip. Box says they were mfred in france or something. Thanks for your excellent much needed website. Please don’t post my e-mail address here as I get too much spam. ============== I bought blades from ebay user ushpizin26 in 2006. I only realized they were fake after I had already left a positive rating for the seller — and I suspect many others have done a similar thing out of trust, only to find out that the blades are fake upon nicking themselves and bleeding. I notified the seller that the blades were fake, but didn’t demand a refund. The blade package has text in three European languages at the back, but no English! To this day, the user continues to sell fake blades despite my warning and a number of users complaining. For example, here are some of his reviews for the blades: “bad product will never buy from again and very slow shipping” (March 29th 2007) “Recommended seller, but blades are inferior to first-run genuine Gillette” (Nov 30 2006) “The blades were all dull likely seconds but offered refund for unopened, not open” (Nov 30 2006) PLEASE POST ALL THESE REVIEWS AND THE SELLER USERNAME ON YOUR WEBSITE & LET EBAY KNOW TOO. THANK YOU SO MUCH, AND PLEASE E-MAIL ME IF YOU DO THIS. Kindest regards.

Hi, thanks a lot for your site! I recently bought 4 sets of 4 Mach3 blades from mgreyhounds1 at Ebay. The first blade I tried kept snapping off the handle, and I first thought that Gillette had changed the design of the lock. However, after reading the info here, I checked the blades and found that they were obviously fake: screwy metallic casings, misaligned blades, crappy plastic, loose glue, etc. Also, the blue stripe was gone after a few shaving strokes – that never happens with original blades. The guy has plenty of positive feedback, obviously from people who didn’t check the blades or didn’t realize they are fake. Amazing.

Well, I’ve been had. I recently purchased 20 Mach 3 Turbo blades off of ebay for only $21.50, with FREE shipping. I of course thought this was a fantastic deal and much better than paying $2.50+ per blade from a retail store. The seller took nearly 3 weeks to get the merchandise to me. I contacted him/her after 2 weeks, and they responded that they hadn’t received the blades yet but expected shipping promptly. The blades arrived less than a week after this. Unfortunately I was completely unaware of any fake blades floating around out there. Thus, I threw away the mailer the blades were sent in and I threw away the boxes the blades came in. I did notice that the boxes looked kind of “generic”, they didn’t appear to match the boxes of Mach 3 Turbo blades which are purchased in the store. Also, I noticed some foreign text on the boxes. Again, since I was not aware these were fake, I went ahead and left the seller positive feedback. I realize this was a pretty dumb move on my part to leave positive feedback before I had even used the merchandise, but I had no reason to expect there was a problem. I did not become aware that there was a problem until I tried to shave with one of the blades. The blades were EXTREMELY dull, and they just didn’t look right. After finding your site, I checked for a serial number on the cartridge holders, and sure enough, there was nothing there. I have sent a message to the seller politely requesting that they do something to make this right. I am awaiting a response.

I feel fortunate to have found your site prior to bidding on Mach3 power blades. As you are likely aware, eBay administration views itself as a messenger, i.e., a platform for business to occur, without fiduciary responsibility for the business that does occur. This is reprehensible in that they clearly have a vested interest in every transaction on the site. There is no gain in siding with conflicted trading partners. As a member since 1999, I have witnessed the steady decline from a community to a commodity and its eventual status as the foremost fencing operation for stolen and fraudulent goods on the planet. In a balanced and enlightened world, eBay CEO, Meg Whitman, would be compelled to sell pez dispensers on Amazon to keep eBay afloat. Unfortunately, as you have experienced, justice is unavailable from both the sellers of these goods (with retaliatory feedback threats) as well as the wind-up employees with their canned replies at eBay. I am ever hopeful that Google will launch a viable alternative. Lastly, do you have any knowledge of the sellers “cousins7430″, item #220089566713 or “thundercat666666″, item #220089068219. Both have nearly perfect extensive feedback history. Still, you’re caveat should not be ignored. Thank you for taking the time to create this guide. It is a wealth of information for other members. Best Regards, Steve

I got burned by ebay ID ‘asntraders’ selling very nicely packaged Mach 3 Turbo blades. But once I tried them they were obviously fake. The first clue was when I turned on the powered M3 handle and the blade was rattling! I’ve never used a blade that rattles before. Then, while shaving it pulled harder than a 20 pound bass. Ouch! I switched to a real Mach 3 blade and it felt much better. This site should be required reading for anyone buying razor blades on ebay. PS- My real blades did not have a serial number on the blade holder, so maybe Gillette phased that out?

Thank you for putting this sight together. I also just found out the hard way about these fake blades. I recently purchased some m3 power blades from “JD_AUCTION_WAREHOUSE” on EBAY. Unfortunately I did not read all the way down to the payment instructions portion where it states they are genuine, but produced in foreign factories. Partially true I suppose and very shady. The first dead give away to me was the fake indicator/lube strip which on real blades fades fairly quickly. These fake blades had a rubbery strip that did not wear at all. It could be peeled off like plastic/rubber but had no lube properties what so ever. The first blade cut ok, however, the second blade….OUCH!! It also had the same dirt and stubble in the rubber fins as claimed by others. GROSS!! I had already left positive feedback before I realized the problem and found this site. In the sellers defense, his customer service is second to none. He has a very fair upfront 100% return and refund policy which he lived up to with no problems. I sort of believe he has no idea he is carrying illegit blades. I would not hesitate to buy other stuff from JD_AUCTION_WAREHOUSE…just AVOID the blades!! Thanks again for a wonderful site! It helped me out big time.

I just wanted to say thanks as your site really helped me to confirm that I had bought fake blades on eBay. I recently bought 6×4 M3Power blades for £17.50 from 3509mike on eBay in the UK. I didn’t notice anything was up until I actually came to use one and it was totally blunt. I then looked at the rest of the cartridge and spotted the blades were misaligned and there were small black flecks of stubble in the rubber fins at the bottom of some of the blades. I found your site first time on searching Google and confirmed right away that they were fakes using your comparison. I’d already left positive feedback for 3509mike by this stage (which wasn’t such a bad thing with heinsight considering your experience) It turns out that 3509mike has also got a history of selling these fake blades and I asked eBay to close his account. They’ve been about as interested in helping me as they were with you and this person is still trading. It does appear that he’s stopped selling fakes blades at least for the moment. So please check his feedback to confirm as a couple of people did give him neutral feedback about the fake blades and I’d appreciate if you could put him on your site also as a warning to others. Note – Informed by joneeboy on 6-24-2006 that 3509mike did provide him with a full refund.

I purchased 48 blades from seller buy823 back in February and just started using them and lo and behold, realized 1. these are not Mach 3 Turbo blades, they’re maybe only Mach 3 blades, and DULL at that, and 2. these are blades from Oslo, or the UK, or something like that, and clearly inferior quality. I sent a message to Buy823 and don’t expect a response. What galls me is the fact that these are packaged as Mach 3 Turbo blades, and the plastic blade holder is marked with “Mach 3 Turbo”, but the blades are clearly not. The signature green moisturizing strip is non-existent and in its place is the old white strip with a solid blue line, hallmark of Mach 3 blades. I called Gillette and they graciously will take these blades back and send me a couple of 8 packs of real blades. Good thing I found your website.

I just about screamed out loud (from the pain) when I shaved with them for the first time. Holy crap are they dull!! I’ve contacted the Ebay seller and he responded within minutes that he didn’t know about the counterfeits so I directed him to this site. Don’t know if he’ll do anything about them but one can hope. I’d like to send them to the Bastards that made them and force them to shave with them!

Great site you’ve set up and very helpful. Like stanc01, I bought 40 Gillette Turbo blades from ’sapozhnikov-ilya’. My blades are obviously fake, since all of them are completely blunt. There’s no serial number on any of the cases. Before buying these razorblades online, I didn’t realize it was possible to counterfeit razorblades. I learned the hard way I guess. I’m in the process of getting my money back from ’sapozhnikov-ilya’ and I have no doubts that Paypal will reimburse me. Thanks for your great site! Now I have the proof that mine are fake too and not just production flaws.

I wish I found your page before I bought online. I though the blades I got were great, until my first shave. There is a huge lump on my neck from a bad cut that got infected. I thought maybe the blade was a dud, so I loaded a fresh one. It was worse than the first. That is what made me suspect they were fakes, and that is how I found your page. I bought 8 packs from buy823 (ebay). I left good feedback, because they seem genuine. It looks like I will have to throw them all out. I hope you put the word out to warn other people from becoming suckers.

I bought 10 boxes from buy823. I found the same problem. Dull blades that are painful to use. He now has MANY negative feedbacks posted for the same RIPOFF! I contacted him and he has offered to refund me for unopened boxes, but he also has negative feedback posted that say he has not followed through with offered refunds! This HAS TO BE a dangerous situation (see reaponder with infected shaving cut) and I would hope eBay will step in. I’m out $48!

I wish I had found this page earlier. I got ripped off $45 too by another seller. I was just wondering if you tried to get the -ve feedback removed?

Bought 16 razors from dude33947. I noticed the blades didnt feel as smooth on my skin as the ones I were using before. Decided to check google and found out about this site. Did a visual inspection and of course it turned out the ones I got were fake.

These things are soo bad. I cut my face right away and am very upset. I wish there was a way to warn people before they get razor burned. The blades I bought on Ebay were a little different than the ones pictured but were 100% fake. #1 way to tell if a blade is fake is to use it. I am concerned about the sterility of these fake blades if they are making these illegaly, they are not going to care about our safety. the blades are visibly dirty and crooked. I guess you get what you pay for.

Thank you for the info. I had no way of knowing as I purchased the blades for my son and have yet to send them to him. You’re right though. The boxes opened without tearing at all, and the blades are exactly as those you pictured. Unfortunately, I have already posted positive feedback for his quick delivery. I was also planning to order more from him. Thank goodness for eBayers like you.

Yep, your absolutely right. The writing on the outside of the box, the gillette box itself looks fake. The writing is smeared. Not to mention, I have sensitive skin, and mach 3 blades are the only blades I can shave with. I just went and used this after I read your email and practically butchered my face. Pretty bad. Thanks for the info.

I have however contacted Gillette for verification and they have mentioned the same situation as you have. Each cartridge should have a number on the side (1 letter 3numbers 1 letter and two numbers) as such L1234L56

I purchased 4 boxes of blades and out of the first box all the moisturizing strips fell out and the blades were all dull and scratchy. I sent a complaint to e bay about the seller as he was making harrassing e mails after receiving negative feedback. When I told him about the problem with the blades his remark was Welcome to e bay you will be receiving your first negative feedback soon. Thanks for the e mail as I will not purchase from this buyer again.
